Ingram's Fourth Win Leads @OW_Panthers Baseball to Saturday Split with Mount Saint Mary

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury baseball team split a Skyline Conference home doubleheader with the Mount Saint Mary Knights Saturday afternoon on Special Olympics Day from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury earned a 5-4 win in the opener before the Knights took the finale with a 5-1 decision.  With the split, the Panthers (10-16) move to 8-3 in conference play while sending Mount Saint Mary (11-9) to 5-1.

Prior to opening pitch, TJ Timmons, a special olympian from Coram, New York, threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Special Olympics of New York Long Island Regional Director of Programming Tim Flynn, and then performed the national anthem.   

In the opener, Kevin Licul registered the game's first hit with a leadoff single in the second inning.  Licul then stole second and second off a Michael Cardino double to break the scoring ice for a 1-0 Panther lead. 

Vinnie Carminati answered in the sixth for the Knights with a two-out single that scored two for a 2-1 lead.  Matt Cahill then put the Knights up 3-1 with an RBI single to close out the top of the sixth. 

Old Westbury took back a 4-3 lead in the sixth with a two-run Brandon Stein single followed by Tommy Ziegen's RBI single. 

Chris Chieffo's RBI single scored Rob Peccerillo from second base in the seventh inning to make it a 4-4 game. 

Nick Yip delivered the go ahead run in the eighth inning with a single up the middle to score Joey Walsh from second for the game-winner. 

Starter Tim Ingram (4-2) was victorious with his second complete game outing to earn his fourth victory of the season.  Ingram was charged with four runs on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  

Knights' starter Brandon Lubrano did not factor into the decision after tossing 6.2 innings before Ryan Turton (0-2) allowed one run in 1.1 innings of relief to take the loss.

Jacob Coners (2-4, BB), Licul (2-4, R, SB) and Yip (2-5, RBI) each collected two hits to lead the Panthers.  Old Westbury finished the opener outhitting Mount Saint Mary, 12-8. 

The Knights were paced by Cahill's 2-for-4 game at the plate.

In the finale, Mount Saint Mary jumped ahead in the fourth inning with four RBI singles off Panther starter Braylin Perez

The Knights tacked on a fifth run in the following frame as Perez walked in Peccerillo for a 5-0 lead. 

Cardino answered in the sixth with an RBI single to score Jonathan Pagan for Old Westbury's lone run. 

Perez (1-3) fanned seven batters in five innings of work, allowing five runs (three earned) on 10 hits and three walks.  Tyler Kapelathen scattered one hit in two innings of scoreless relief.

Coners (2-4) produced his team-leading ninth multi-hit game of the season while Cardino (2-3, RBI) added his fifth.  Alexander Abanavas (0-1) swept Old Westbury's lone base of the game as the Knights finished with a 2-1 advantage on the base path. 

James Nakashian (2-3, RBI), Mike Leone (2-4, R) and Steve Notaro (2-4, R) led the Knights with two hits apiece as Mount Saint Mary held an 11-6 edge in the hit column. 
    
Kevin Duffy (2-2) went the distance to earn his second win of the season and was charged with one run on six hits and one walk while striking out seven Panthers.

FARMINGDALE STATE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the diamond on Sunday (April 13) for a Skyline Conference road doubleheader with the Farmingdale State Rams at 12 p.m. from Rams Field in Farmingdale, New York.
