DECATUR, Ga. - The Oglethorpe baseball team went across town to play Division I Georgia State in the final game of their regular season Tuesday evening. The Stormy Petrels kept it close for awhile, but eventually fell, 18-2, to the home-standing Panthers at GSU Baseball Complex.

The Petrels held the Panthers to two runs over the first three innings, but the home side exploded after that, scoring 16 runs over the game's final six innings, including six in the sixth, four in the seventh, and three in the eighth. The Panthers pounded out 18 hits on the night.

The Petrels' bats were held silent for much of the night, but they started to awaken a bit in the latter part of the game. Designated hitter Patrick Kulick slammed a home run over the left-center field wall in the seventh and shortstop Spencer Transue tripled to lead off the eighth and came around to score on an RBI groundout by left fielder Casey Innis. In all, the Petrels accumulated six hits over the course of the game, four of them coming in the last three innings.

Lefty Dan McBryan suffered the loss for the Petrels, dropping him to 0-3 on the season. He allowed two runs and three hits over two innings of work, walking two in the process. Kulick had a good night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with the home run. He was the only Petrel to have two hits on the night.

With the loss, the Petrels complete their regular season with a 17-23 record. They'll now prepare for the SAA Tournament this weekend. As the No. 7 seed, they'll take on No. 2 seed Berry, who's hosting the bottom half of the tournament bracket, at 6 p.m. Friday in Mount Berry, Ga. The winner of that game will take on the winner of Friday's other matchup between No. 3 seed Rhodes and No. 6 seed Centre at noon on Saturday. The losers of Friday's games will play each other in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The winner of the four-team, double-elimination tournament in Mount Berry will take on the winner of the other four-team tournament, hosted by Birmingham-Southern.
