VALPARAISO (Ind.) -- Senior Matt Magni fired his second career complete game to lead the Ohio Northern baseball team to a 2-1 victory at Division I Valparaiso (Ind.) on Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears improve to 21-11 on the season, while the Crusaders fall to 15-19.

Magni (3-0) did not give up an earned run and surrendered just four hits, while striking out five batters.

ONU wasted no time, scoring both runs in the top of the first inning.

Sophomore Andy Lubonovic led off the game with a single and moved to third on a 2-out single by junior Dan Belliveau.

After Belliveau stole second, sophomore Nick Guitar singled to score Lubonovic and put Northern up 1-0.

Senior Daniel Rodriguez followed with a single to drive in Belliveau and make the score 2-0.

Valpo scored a run in the sixth, but Magni retired the final 10 batters of the game for his first complete game of the season.

Junior Jack LaMarca went 2-for-4 in the game to pace the Polar Bears.

Ohio Northern will return to action on Saturday, when it returns to OAC action with a double header at Capital, beginning at 1 pm.
