HOBOKEN, NJ (NJCUGothicKnights.com) | New Jersey City University rallied from a 5-2 deficit with three runs in the top of the eighth, only to give it back to Stevens Institute of Technology on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning and strand the tying run in scoring position in the ninth as Stevens edged NJCU, 6-5, in a wild non-conference game under the lights at Dobbelaar Field on April 21.
In what has been a competitive cross-Hudson County rivalry, Stevens won by just one run for the third consecutive meeting and the fourth time in the last five. NJCU (9-20) dropped its eighth straight with six of the defeats coming by two runs or less and eight of its last 10 losses by three or fewer runs. Stevens upped its mark to 14-10.
NJCU, playing its first night game of the season, fell to 2-5 in one-run games this season, 4-10 in games decided by two or less runs and 0-18 when tied or trailing after eight innings.
Freshman second baseman NICK RUSCINGNO (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for NJCU while freshman third baseman TAYLOR BORN (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) scored twice, drove in a run and tied the single-season school record with his 13th hit by pitch including four in the last three games.
