Baruch Drops a Pair to Staten Island in Conference Doubleheader

The Baruch College Bearcats were swept by the Dolphins from the College of Staten Island in a conference doubleheader (1-0, 11-2) on Sunday afternoon in Staten Island, New York.

The two losses drop the Bearcats to 3-5 in conference and 10-20 overall, while CSI improves to 9-1 in conference and 17-11 overall.

The Bearcats were held scoreless in the opening game (1-0). CSI scored in the first inning and the Bearcats were held to three hits the rest of the way with
Matthew Ballone, Eric Ulinoand Keith Ezerskyeach smacking a single.

Paul Perezwas the tough-luck loser despite another strong complete game with a line of six innings, one earned run, three strikeouts and no walks to keep CSI's potent bats in check. Chris Falcone was the winner on the mound for CSI with the complete game three-hitter on five strikeouts.

In the second game, CSI led 3-1 through four innings, but exploded in the fifth with eight runs on six hits and two errors to turn a competitive contest into an 11-2 win on their senior day.


Philip Lopreteaccounted for the first Baruch run in the third inning with an RBI single to plate Ballone. Dan Daleyhelped plate the second run in the sixth inning with an RBI ground out to score Zachary T. Uher.

The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, May 1, with a Senior Day conference doubleheader against John Jay College of Criminal Justice. First pitch at the Kingsborough Community College baseball field is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
