Wheaton took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when the Thunder opened the inning with a Trey Martin triple followed by a Kyle Mellinger (PICTURED RIGHT) double. Michael Szalach's groundout later scored Mellinger to give Wheaton a 2-0 lead.

The Thunder then blew the game open with a five-run third inning that started with a towering home run by Johnny Peltz. An RBI single by Justin Swider later in the inning pushed the lead to 4-0 before Martin delivered the big blow with a three-run home run that hooked around the left field foul pole and ended Diessner's night on the mound.

Matt Krause

The Eagles cracked the scoreboard for their only run of the game in the top of the sixth but Schmitz limited the damaged by stranding two runners to end the inning. With storm clouds looming, Wheaton finished the game off in the bottom of the seventh inning by scoring four runs with just one out. Singles by Taylor Howe, Swider and Martin loaded the bases with no outs ahead of a two-run single by Mellinger. Two batters later, Martin scored on a passed ball and Matt Krause (PICTURED LEFT) came up with the final hit to plate Mellinger and give Wheaton the 11-1 run-rule victory.

Trey Martin was 4-4 on the night with three runs driven in and three runs scored. Martin was a double shy of his first career cycle. Swider, Mellinger, Peltz and Krause each had two hits along with at least one run scored and driven in.
