Peterson's 8-hit day powers UST sweep

Senior Tyler Peterson went 8-for-9 including four doubles and drove in five runs on the day to lead No. 12-ranked St. Thomas to a 13-6, 10-4 sweep of St. John's in MIAC baseball in Collegeville.

The Tommies (27-7 overall, 16-2 MIAC) moved closer to securing their 12th consecutive conference regular-season title. They will lock up at least a share of the MIAC crown with one win in Sunday's twinbill at Augsburg or one loss by Bethel in its four games set for Sunday and Monday.

Senior J.D. Dorgan drove in seven runs and had a four-hit day, including two triples and one double. Fellow seniors Jack Hogan (five hits) and Kelvin Stroik (four hits) also had big offensive days.

UST junior Colin Wendinger allowed no earned runs over five innings in the opener and improved to 6-0.

In game two, Senior Steve Maher worked six innings and allowed four runs but took his third win. Tommy Danczyk pitched three innings of hitless relief for his sixth save.
