#2 Webster Wins Twin-Bill at Fontbonne, 5-3 & 12-4

The #2 ranked Webster University baseball team beat Fontbonne University, 5-3 and 12-4, to remain undefeated at 25-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.   Isaac Behme won his seventh game in the opener and a Gorlok 12-run assault in game two was highlighted by an Ian Foege grand slam.

Webster took a 1-0 lead in game one on a Corey Lasky (SR, Vernon Hills, IL/Adlai E Stevenson HS) single and a Taylor Stoulp (SR, St. Louis, MO/St. Mary's HS) double in the third.  They extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth.

A Charlie Gandolfi (JR, Mundelein, IL/Mundelein HS) walk, Kevin Kojs (SR, New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way Central HS) single, and Foege (SR, Eureka, MO/Eureka HS) walk loaded the bases.  Matt Wollnik (FR, Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley HS) scored Ganolfi with a sacrifice fly and a Lasky single scored Kojs.  Foege took third on a passed ball and Ryan Hall (SR, Chesterfield, MO/Eureka HS) scored Foege with a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.

Starter Behme (JR, Harrisburg, IL/Harrisburg HS) was touched for three runs in the bottom of the fifth.  The Griffins parlayed a pair of singles, two walks, and a double, to cut the lead to 4-3.

Webster added an insurance run in the sixth.  Foege walked and Wollnik reach on an E5 on a bunt, with Foege taking third.  After Foege was cut down in a rundown on a bunt by Lasky, Wollnik stole third and Hall walked to load the bases.  A ground out by Stoulp scored Wollnik to make it 5-3, Gorloks.

Tigart took over and picked up his first collegiate save by throwing two scoreless innings.  Tigart allowed one hit and walked none in his two innings of work.

Behme went five innings, allowing five hits, three walks and three runs, while striking out three.  He improves to 7-0 on the season with the victory, and 23-5 for his career.  The 23 wins are the most in Webster history, a number Behme has achieved in less than three seasons of work.

Lasky was 2-4, with an RBI and a run.  Stoulp was 1-4, with two RBIs, and Kojs 2-3, with a run scored.

In game two, a seven-run Gorlok fifth inning did all the offensive damage they would need.  After Lasky and Hall singled, Stoulp sacrificed them over.  A Winckel sac fly scored Lasky.  Jeff Kammer (JR, Chesterfield, MO/Lafayette HS) was hit by a pitch and Kojs singled, scoring Hall.  Foege walked and a Wollnik double scored Kammer and Kojs.

A Gandolfi bunt single sent Foege home and Wollnik to third.  Gandolfi stole second and Lasky followed with a single, scoring Gandolfi and Wollnik, giving Webster an 8-2 lead.

Webster took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Winckel double, with Kojs doubling him home.  Fontbonne nicked starter C.J. Lee (FR, Aurora, IL/Waunbonsie Valley HS) for two runs in the bottom  of the fourth to take a 2-1.

The Gorloks scored four more in the sixth, highlighted by a Foege grand slam to make it 12-2.  For Foege, it was his third home run of 2014.

Lee went five innings, gave up five hit and two runs, walked four and struck out six.  He improved to 4-1 on the season.  Chris Jansen (JR, Cicero, IN/Bishop Chatard HS) pitched a scoreless sixth, and Zach Schneider (SR, Grayslake, IL/Warren Township HS) pitched the seventh, giving up two runs.  Freshman Matt Goro (Wildwood, MO/Lafayette HS) threw a scoreless eighth and Mitch Stefani (SO, Aurora, IL/Waubonsie Valley HS) a scoreless ninth.

Foege was 2-4, with a home run and four RBIs.  Kojs was 3-4, with a double, two RBIs, and two runs, and Lasky 2-4 with two RBIs.  Wollnik went 2-4, with two doubles and two RBIs.      

Webster is 33-5 overall and hosts Fontbonne for a single contest on May 4 at GCS Ballpark.  It is senior night, and the nine graduating Gorloks will be honored before the game.
