Fisher Wins Second Consecutive ECAC Metro Crown

More news about: St. John Fisher

For the second consecutive season, the St. John Fisher College baseball team has won the ECAC Metro championship, as the Cardinals blanked Fairleigh-Dickinson-College at Florham, 9-0, on Saturday afternoon in what turned out to be a rain-shortened five-inning contest.  With the win, Fisher ties the 2010 and 2012 teams for the program record with 31 wins.  The Cardinals, ranked third overall in the region, will find out early Monday morning whether or not they will earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships.

Shawn Corrigan was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after picking up his sixth win of the season with five scoreless innings on Saturday.

Fisher wasted no time putting the Devils in its rearview mirror, scoring six runs in the opening inning after belting five hits.  After back-to-back singles by Nick Flemister and Mike Fahy, Brad Rush picked up where he left off in Friday's win, lining a bases-clearing double down the left field line to put Fisher in front 2-0.  Following a walk by Calvin Woolhiser and a bunt-single by Cody Wiktorski, the Cardinals had the bases loaded with no outs and would go one to score three-straight runs with Mike Roman, Chris Roeder and Tim Coykendall each collecting an RBI.

Fisher would add to its lead in the second as Woolhiser grounded an RBI-single to left field before Roman made it 8-0 after smacking a run-scoring single through the right side.  Fisher would score its ninth and final run on the very next play when Roeder lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Wiktorski who had collected a single earlier in the inning.

Eight different players recorded a hit as the Cardinals were on fire at the dish going 11-for-20 as a team with four walks.

Mike Fahy was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Roeder went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI in the win.  Wiktorski had a pair of singles in three plate appearances and Rush and Roman were each 1-for-2 with a two RBI.
