Young Gun Gets Bulldogs into Midwest Regional Final

More news about: Adrian

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Bulldog baseball team needed someone to step up on the mound after playing three games already in the NCAA Midwest Regional and sophomore Jordan Frayer answered the call with eight solid innings in a 3-2 win over Concordia Chicago on Friday night. Adrian (33-14) tangled with No. 4 Concordia Chicago (39-7) for the second straight day and handed the Cougars both of their losses in the regional.

Frayer and C.J. Selner were locked in a pitcher's duel for most of the game as neither gave up an inch knowing the loser's season would be over. Frayer budged in the second as CUC got a leadoff single by Thomas Gier and a single down the left field line by Kyle Huber. Dan Eichholzer bunted both runners over to second and third. Colin Bethran singled through the left side as Gier scored the game's first run.

Adrian got on the board in the seventh with three runs as Tommy Eng pinch hit to start the inning and singled to center. Eng then stole second and Hayden Craig bunted him over to third with one out. Corleone Desimone singled to right center to tie the game and moved to second with two outs on a groundout. Ryan Dorow hit a RBI single to left field and Desimone scored on the play as Dorow took second on the throw towards the plate. Sam Fischer then delivered a single to left as Dorow scored for the third run.

The Cougars got within one with a run in the top of the eighth. Steve Zubrzycki doubled down the left field line with one out and Carlos Olavarria singled home Zubrzycki with two outs on a single to center. Greg Sombati entered the game in the ninth and picked up his second save pitching a perfect inning with a groundout and two flyouts. Dorow finished 3-for-4 and Fischer went 2-for-3 as players with multiple hits for Adrian.

Adrian will now play No. 3 UW-Whitewater on Saturday at noon central time in the Midwest Regional final. The Bulldogs will need two wins in order to advance to the Division III World Series next week in Appleton, Wisconsin.
