Hornets Stumble on Second Day of Diamond Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Methodist University took advantage of some fielding miscues Saturday as the Lynchburg College baseball team fell 8-2 on the second day of the Methodist Diamond Invitational.

Methodist jumped on the board when Alex Rodriguez singled up the middle with one out and later came around to score.

Similar to the first game of the tournament, Lynchburg fought back to tie the game in the top of the second inning when Joe Tomasulo doubled in Wil Parsons from second base.

The Hornets were forced to rally yet again in the third frame down 2-1. Will Hylton singled to right field with one out and subsequently stole second base. Rob Tomasulo followed the lead of his younger brother and drove home Hylton to pull even with the Monarchs.

Methodist scored the final six runs of the game, plating two each in the fourth and fifth frames to pull away.

Brandon Miller pitched five innings for the Hornets, surrendering just one earned run. Gerald Taylor and Colton Steber both saw time in relief.

Lynchburg (0-2) faces McMurry University (3-3) Sunday at noon to close out play in the Diamond Invitational. McMurry is 1-1 in the tournament after defeating Methodist on Friday and falling to CNU on Saturday.
