Demorest,GA- The Piedmont College baseball team wrapped up their three-game series with visiting Covenant College today in Loudermilk Field. The Lions would steal two victories this afternoon to take the series win overall winning both games of the double header today. Senior DANIEL LINDSEY would catapult the Lions to the series win with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the 14th in the second game.

The Lions and Scots faced off in a double header today, with the first game coming down to the wire as well. The Lions' bats came to life in the first game picking up nine hits after being held to six in the Friday night loss.

Piedmont would strike first in the first game chasing the Scots' starting pitcher Micah Mabe (1-1) in the first inning putting up four runs on five hits.

The Scots called upon senior pitcher Spencer Smith to come into the ball game, but the Lions would pick up the eventual game winner in the third inning. CASEY PARHAM singled to score MICHAEL BARNES giving the Lions a 5-0 advantage after three in the books.

Smith held the Lions to just two hits and one run over his 6 1/3 innings pitched. However, the Scots rallied back in the top of the sixth picking up four runs on five hits bringing the game to within one run. Piedmont reliever ALLEN TOKARZ entered the game and would strike out his first batter in the sixth to effectively end the Covenant rally.

The Lions picked up two more hits throughout the ballgame, and held the Scots scoreless for the remainder of the game to win 5-4 and tie the series at one game apiece.

Freshman SETH GEORGE started on the mound for the Lions picking up his first collegiate win on the mound pitching 5 2/3 innings and giving up only two hits before the sixth. Tokarz would finish the night hurling 3 1/3 innings striking out five and giving up only three hits.

Barnes led the way for the Lions in the first game going 3-for-4 and an RBI. Parham finished the first game 2-for-4 with an RBI as well.

Heading into the final game of the series, both teams were eager for the final victory to seal the series. However, neither team could have predicted the extra-inning affair that would ensue.

Last season, the Scots swept the visiting Lions, and eventually won the USA South Athletic Conference advancing to the NCAA South Regional. This time around, the series would be decided in the bottom of the 14th with some late inning heroics from Lindsey.

Countless opportunities plagued the Scots as a pitcher's duel in the third game would take hold. Starter MAX OBERKOFLER for the Lions threw six innings strong in his third no-decision of the season. Oberkofler would give up nine hits, but only gave up one run while striking out six and walking only one batter.

Both teams would pick up one run in the third inning to knot the score at one while the hits would continue to add on for both teams. The Scots' starter Jonah Paul lasted 6 2/3 innings holding the Lions to just six hits and one run.

Senior relief pitcher LUKE MACDONALD dominated the Scots for his two innings on the night striking out five of the seven batters he faced. MacDonald gave up only one hit in his sixth relief appearance and set the Lions up for the victory.

The two teams would remain tied at one until Piedmont would get on the board with another Parham single scoringBRAD STINSON to give the Lions a 2-1 advantage heading into the ninth. JOSH THOMAS entered the game and the Scots picked up one run in the top of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.

Thomas dug down deep and performed for his team giving his longest outing of his career throwing six innings and striking out four only giving up two hits and one run in the process. Thomas would be credited with his second win of the 2015 season having not thrown more than three innings since his freshman campaign in 2013.

Covenant relief pitcher Alec Mitchell would pitch 6 2/3 innings as well for the Scots giving up both runs late in the ball game. Mitchell was named to the D3 baseball Team of the Week a week ago, but would end up on the wrong end of the decision tonight picking up his first loss of the season.

In the bottom of the 14th, WILL SKIDMORE would lead things off with a single. Advancing on a sacrifice bunt byCALEB NORTONEVAN GRESHAM walked, and a BRECK DAVIDSON single loaded the bases with one out forDANIEL LINDSEY.

Lindsey watched four pitches pass by bringing the count to 3-1 before lancing a fastball over the head of the Scots' first baseman bringing home Skidmore and handing the series win to the Lions. The players rushed out of the dugout to surround Lindsey for his heroic single as the crowd, who braved 40 degree temperatures and lower most of the day, stood on their feet in applause.

The Lions pitching staff threw for an astounding 15 strikeouts in the second game which is the highest single-game total since a 16 strikeout performance against Birmingham Southern on February 17 of 2013. The Lions dropped the decision to the Panthers, but were successful in pulling out a win tonight.

Overall the Lions pitchers would pick up 22 strikeouts on the day, and an astounding 21 hits. Barnes accounted for five of the hits himself today as Davidson finished one behind him with four.
