Tigers Cruise Past Beavers in Game 1

PASADENA — Jake Chambers went 4 for 5 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs, and Joseph Klingstruck out five in five innings pitched as the Occidental baseball team beat Caltech, 11-1 in 8 innings on Friday in the first of a three-game series with the Beavers this weekend.

The Tigers improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in SCIAC play. 

Chambers, a sophomore transfer from San Joaquin Delta, hit a double in the top of the seventh and another in the top of the eighth, driving in three as the Tigers blew the game open with a combined eight runs in the last two innings.

Chambers' first RBI brought in Victor Munoz to give Oxy its first run in the top of the second.

Kling didn't allow an earned run, gave up just four hits and had one walk to earn the win. Devon DeRaad pitched a pair of scoreless innings in relief and Josh Cohen gave up just one hit to finish the game in the eighth.

Munoz went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Charlie Caccamo went 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, and Walker Marks was 2 for 2 with an RBI for the Tigers.

Oxy had problems in the field though, committing five errors.

Chris McCarren and Ryan Casey each had a pair of hits to lead the Beavers. 

Next Game: The teams play a doubleheader at Oxy's Anderson Field on Saturday, starting at 11 a.m.
