Baseball Drops Pair To Mt. Aloysius On Saturday

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of Scranton baseball team ran up against some strong pitching while dropping both ends of a doubleheader against Mt. Aloysius on Saturday at the Ripken Experience during the team's southern trip.

The Royals lost the opener, 7-4, and the nightcap, 7-3, while totaling 15 hits between the two games.

In the opener, Scranton (1-4) fell behind 2-0 after an inning, but clawed back within one on two occasions, but could get no closer. Junior Zach Dignam (Bridgewater, N.J./Immaculata) singled twice and scored a run, and sophomore shortstop Patrick O'Dell (Harleysville, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) singled twice and drove in a run.

In the nightcap, the Royals had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before Mt. Aloysius (2-0) scored six times in the fifth inning to take control.

Freshman outfielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) singled, tripled, scored a run and drove in a run in the loss. Senior outfielder Nick Papillo (Germantown, Md./St. John's College H.S.) singled twice and scored a run, and freshman outfielder Chase Standen (Newtown Square, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) singled twice and drove in a run.

The Royals will wrap up the trip on Sunday when they face Penn State-Berks at 9 a.m.
