LETU Baseball Loses to Texas Lutheran, 7-3

The LeTourneau University baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to Texas Lutheran on Saturday at Conrad-Vernon Field.

Texas Lutheran (5-1) capitalized on four errors by LETU to go along with 10 hits for the win. Eight of the nine batters in the lineup contributed a hit including Matt King, who had a team-best two hits in the win. Starting pitcher Dylan Drgac held the LETU offense to three hits and struck out five in 8.1 innings of work.
 
LeTourneau (0-2) senior pitcher Justin Jenkins settled down after surrendering a pair of unearned runs in the first. He allowed just six hits and struck out two in a 7.1 inning stint, plus all five of the runs that he gave up were unearned.
 
After scoring two on two errors in the first, TLU capitalized on two more errors by LETU in the eighth to stretch the lead 5-0. A two-RBI single by Tony Gennusa extended the lead to 7-0 in the top of the ninth.

LeTourneau got on the board in the ninth on RBI singles by David PerkinsSean Sellers and Dillon Yates. LETU ended the game with the bases loaded in the loss, plus Yates had two of the four hits for the YellowJackets.
 
Next, LETU will host Castleton State on Monday (Feb. 16) and Tuesday (Feb. 17) at 6 p.m. Last year, LETU defeated Castleton State (8-5, Feb. 24; 8-3, Feb. 25). The Spartans went on to win the North Atlantic Conference title and reached the NCAA Regional play for a third-straight year.
