Emory University senior Connor Dillman pitched eight solid innings, and junior David Coble hit his first career home run, to help lead the second-ranked Eagles to a 5-2 win over Washington University on Tuesday, and keep the squad a game up on the field at the 2015 University Athletic Association Championships.

Emory, now 3-0 in UAA action and 9-3 overall, has a game lead on both Case Western Reserve University and New York University in the standings, with five tournament games left in the field.  Washington, now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in UAA action, dropped into a tie for fourth in the standings with the University of Rochester with the loss, while Brandeis is in sixth-place with a 0-3 conference mark.

After allowing a run in the first inning after the first four Washington batters reached base in the game, Dillman bounced back to strike out back-to-back hitters and induce a pop up to get out of trouble without any further damage in the inning.

It would take Emory just one batter to even the score, as leadoff hitter Coble sent a 3-2 pitch deep over the wall in leftfield for his first home run as an Eagle, knotting the score at a run apiece.

Dillman allowed just one more run the rest of the way, with the Bears taking a 2-1 lead in the third.  However, Emory would take the lead for good in the fourth inning, scoring a pair of runs on RBI singles from senior Jordan Selbach and sophomore Chris Young.

Young added a run for the Eagles in the sixth with a sacrifice fly, and senior Wes Peacock extended Emory's lead to 5-2 in the seventh with an RBI groundout.

Dillman would scatter eight hits and two walks during the game, while striking out four batters and forcing three double plays with a 116-pitch effort.  Sophomore Kyle Monk pitched a perfect ninth inning (just a day removed from a three-and-a-third inning outing), striking out two batters to earn his fourth save of the year.

Sophomore Philip Maldari finished the game two-for-four with two runs scored, a double, a triple and a stolen base.  Sophomore Wilson Morgan added a two-for-three day at the plate.

Emory will have a quick turnaround, returning to action at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 11^th against Brandeis at Sanford Memorial Stadium in Sanford, Florida.
