Hood Wins First Game Played in School History

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Hood's first game was played three weeks after originally planned, but it proved to be worth the wait.

The Blazers won the first game they played in program history with a 10-7 victory over Penn College at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Hood fell in the day's second game, 9-5, against undefeated Catholic.

HOOD 10, PENN COLLEGE 7

Tyler Erney (Bethlehem, Pa. / Liberty) and Josh Gall (Odenton, Md. / Arundel) each drove in three runs as Hood defeated the Wildcats 10-7. 

Erney went 3-for-5 in the contest with a a stolen base, while Gall was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.

Dylan Johnson (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) got the start on the mound and picked up the win. He hurled seven innings and scattered eight hits. He struck out six and allowed four earned runs. Andrew Catone(Jacksonville, Fla. / Stanton College Prep) earned the save with two innings of scoreless relief.

CATHOLIC 9, HOOD 5

Hood had Catholic in a battle with the game tied at 5-5, but the Cardinals pulled away for the win to remain undefeated. 

Drake Friend (Gladwyne, Pa. / Harriton) and Michael Hernandez (Lancaster, Pa. / Hempfield) both went 2-for-4 in the game. Hernandez added a double.

On the mound, Kole Hearn (Seaford, Del. / Sussex Tech) started and lasted 4.2 innings, allowing just two earned runs. Matthias Teufel (Vienna, Austria / Sacre Coeur), Ryan Atkinson (Hamburg, Pa. / Hamburg) and Cameron Fitzgerald (Bowie, Md. / DeMatha Catholic) pitched scoreless innings in relief.
