The baseball team suffered a 10-6 home opener loss to the Pioneers of William Paterson University on Thursday afternoon at MCU Park in Brooklyn, New York.

The visiting Pioneers (2-0) forced the Bearcats (3-7) to play catch up by taking a 4-0 lead in their first at-bat and adding a fifth in the second inning.

The Bearcats battled back with three runs in their bottom half of the second with
Eric Ulinosmacking a long three-run homer to left field to cut the score to 5-3.

Ulino cut the score again to 5-4 in his next at-bat in the fourth with an RBI single to left field to plate
Angel Tejeda.

The Pioneers scored two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh en route to building a 10-4 lead into the ninth inning.

The Bearcats did not go quietly and scored twice in their final at-bat as Uher hit his second homer of the season with a runner on base for the final 10-6 score line.

The Pioneers scored 10 runs on 11 hits and no errors, while the Bearcats finished with six runs on seven hits and committed four errors.

The team was scheduled to play a doubleheader on Sunday at SUNY-Purchase, but it has been postponed due to unplayable field conditions.

Their next scheduled contest will be back at MCU Park on Tuesday, March 17 with a single contest at 3:30 pm against the United States Merchant Marine Academy (King's Point).
