Trinity Baseball Dominant In Doubleheader Sweep Against Worcester State

Leesburg, Fla. - Senior tri-captain RHP Sean Meekins (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and sophomore LHP Chris Speer (Westpot, Conn.) each pitched a complete game without a walk to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 7/6-1/1 doubleheader sweep over the Worcester State University Lancers in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Pat Thomas Stadium this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 3-0 while the Lancers drop to 1-4.

In the first game, Meekins yielded an RBI single by Adam Barry in the top of the first inning but tossed six scoreless frame from that point on, allowing eight hits and fanning 11.  Trinity scored five times in the second inning on RBI singles by freshman Brendan Pierce (Westport, Conn.) and senior tri-captain 1B Bryan Wolfe (La Habra Heights, Calif.) and a pair of Lancer errors.  The Bantams added anothr run in the sixth frame on an RBI double down the left field line by senior OF Evan Abraham (Pacific Palisades, Calif.).  Zach Zona allowed six hits and two earned runs with one walk and five K's in six innings on the hill for Worcester State.  Wolfe finished 2-for-3 for the Trinity offense.

Speer also allowed a first-inning run and nothing after that, finishing with a five-hitter and striking out four Lancers.  Trinity scored three times in the second inning on RBI singles by senior SS Adam Moossmann (East Northport, N.Y.) and freshman Cooper Mooney (Southbury, Conn.) sandwiched around an RBI double by Abraham.  Moossmann and Abraham added a run-scoring double and triple, respectively, in the fourth inning and the Bantams scored twice more in the seventh inning on an RBI single by junior 2B Matt Mortimer (Spencer, Mass.) and a passed ball.
