No. 5 Panthers down Endicott, Rutgers-Camden in Florida

AUBURNDALE, Fla.—The fifth-ranked Birmingham-Southern baseball team went 2-0 on Tuesday in Auburndale, Fla., defeating Endicott College 13-2 and Rutgers University-Camden 13-2.

The Panthers moved to 16-1 on the season with the two victories after suffering their first defeat yesterday at the hands of William Paterson University.

BSC pulled ahead 9-0 against Endicott before the Gulls got on the board in the bottom of the eighth, and added four more runs in the top of the ninth to notch the 13-2 victory. The Panthers racked up 15 hits, with senior David Bourbonnais going 5-6, including a home run, with four RBI. Senior Jacob Mayfield and sophomore Sam Roberts were also 2-4 with two RBI, and sophomoreZach Wingate was 2-5 with one RBI. The Panthers also drew 14 walks, two away from the single-game record of 16 set in 2004.

Senior left-hander Paul Caudill (4-0) started and went seven innings, giving up four hits and no runs with five strikeouts. Freshman Luke Anderson threw the eighth, allowing four hits and two earned runs with one strikeout, and sophomore Easton Fuller closed the game, giving up one hit with two strikeouts in the ninth.

Statistics for the game against RU-C were not immediately available, but will be posted here soon.

The Panthers are in action for one more game tomorrow, facing Eastern Connecticut State at 10:15 a.m. EDT. BSC returns home this weekend, resuming Southern Athletic Association play with a three-game series against Berry at Striplin Field. Games are set for 1 p.m. CDT on both Saturday and Sunday, with the teams playing a doubleheader on Saturday.
