The University of Rochester baseball team managed just six hits and was shutout 3-0 against the College at Brockport in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday evening at Towers Field.

Brockport (7-6) spoiled the Yellowjackets (4-5) home opener behind a strong pitching performance from starter Tyler Clifford and reliever Nick Pontari.  Clifford tossed six innings and gave up just 4 hits, 2 walks while striking out 3.  Pontari got his first save of the season throwing three scoreless innings of relief and allowed just 2 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts.

Rochester's pitchers combined to allow just five hits on the day, all coming off of starter John Ghyzel.  Ghyzel went six innings and gave up 3 earned runs while walking 4 and striking out 4.  Andrew Crean faced the minimum in the final three innings, striking out one batter.

The Golden Eagles would get on the board first in the 3rd inning.  Luke Gilbert led off with a double down the left field line.  After advancing to 3rd on a groundout, Anthony Barbetto reached on an infield single to plate Gilbert.  A flyout and then a Josh Martin single put runners on 1st and 3rd.  Brockport then scored its second of the inning on when Barbetto scampered home with Martin getting in a rundown.

In the 4th, Brockport loaded the bases with none out, but Ghyzel settled in a struck out two straight batters and then got a groundout to escape the jam.

Rochester did the same in the bottom of the 5th, leaving the bases loaded.  Tyler Schmidt singled, Matt Todd walked and Nolan Schultz got hit by a pitch, but Clifford got a ground out to end the threat.

Brockport would add an insurance run in the sixth when Lou Mastellone flied out to center, scoring Chris Davis who reached via a leadoff double.

Schmidt led Rochester with a 3-4 day at the plate, adding a stolen base.  Brian Munoz was 2-4 with a stolen base as well.  Five players for the Golden Eagles each had one hit.

Rochester returns to action tomorrow when they host #2 ranked SUNY Cortland at 5 pm.
