AUBURNDALE, FL - The Union College baseball team concluded play in the 2015 RussMatt Invitational winning their third straight contest, defeating the Kalamazoo Hornets 8-4 on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Kent Curran had three RBIs while junior Eric Egan went 3-for-3 at the dish, driving in a pair to lead the Dutchmen offense.

Freshman Eric Beer gave up three runs (2 ER) on five hits in five innings of work to pick up his first career win. Beer punched out two batters and walked only one.

Trailing 3-1 in the fifth inning, Union took the lead as Curran drove in freshmen Jake Vesling and Andy Labeck with a double to deep right center. Jake Fishman could have added another run on the play but the junior was tagged out at home trying to score from first. Vesling had an RBI single in the inning, knocking in Egan.

Egan made it 5-3 in the sixth with an RBI single to bring home CJ Worley.

The Dutchmen added two more an inning later in the 7th as Vesling came around to score after Fishman reached on a throwing error. After Fishman picked up his second stolen base of the game, Curran had another deep double, this time to left center, to bring home Fishman.

Egan drove in his second run on the ballgame in the 8th, bringing home Zack Twitchell from third to make it 8-3.

Chris Pignatello ran into a bit of trouble in the ninth, walking in a batter to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs. However, the senior buckled down and got the Hornet batter to fly out to right to end the game.

Union will have an off day tomorrow before facing local rival RPI on Friday and Saturday down in Florida. Doubleheaders will be played both days with play scheduled to begin at noon each day.
