No. 11 Shenandoah Splits with No. 7 Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – Playing its highest ranked opponent this season, No. 11/21 Shenandoah University split its ODAC baseball doubleheader with No. 7/8 Randolph-Macon Sunday afternoon.

Shenandoah (12-3-1, 9-2 ODAC) came back to win game two, 3-2, after Randolph-Macon (16-3, 8-3) rallied for a 8-6 victory in the opener.

Junior Michael Scimanico (4-0) tossed a complete game five-hitter in the game two win.

Scimanico struck out seven and walked just one in tossing his first complete game of the spring.

Ryan Mossman drove in what proved to be the game-winning run with a single to left in the eighth. Mossman platedDaniel Freshley, who led off the Hornets eighth with a double to left center.

In the ninth, J.J. McDaniel had a two-run double down the left field line to give Scimanico some breathing room.

In the opener, the Hornets scored four runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh to lead 6-1, but saw the 'Jackets score seven runs in the eighth off of game one starter Darrell Thompson (2-1) to steal the victory.

Thompson allowed seven runs on nine hits and three walks in 7 1/3 innings of work. He struck out seven.

Mossman went 3 for 4 with Billy Arens and Joe Coleman each getting two hits.

Arens drove in three runs with John WiltMichael Paul and Coleman driving in one run each.
