BC splits doubleheader with Millsaps

ROME, Ga. - The Berry College Vikings split a doubleheader with the Millsaps College Majors on Saturday. The Vikings won 9-6 in the first game. The Majors took game two 6-3 after the Vikings sent it into extra innings.

With the split, the Vikings moved to 7-3 on the year and 1-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Majors are now 4-2 with a 1-1 conference record.

In the first game, the Vikings scored 3 runs in the bottom of the third. With Hunter White and Alex McGill on base, designated hitter Doug Heath got a base hit that was followed by an error, which scored all three.

Sam Joyce also helped lead the Vikings to victory with his 3-for-4 game. 

Ben Jernigan (3-0) started game one for the Vikings. He threw 5 innings and received the win. Braxton Teal threw the last inning and received the save for the Vikings.

Isaac Glenn and Drew Wray led the Majors offense in game one, with each getting 3 hits.

In game two, pitcher Keith Shumaker led the Majors to a win with a complete game and no earned runs. He tossed 8 innings, allowed 3 runs, six hits and struck out 6 Vikings.

Five Viking pitchers took the mound in the game. Zach Dutton pitched the eighth inning and took the loss.

Millsaps outhit Berry, 12-6. Scott and Jernigan both collected 2 hits apiece.

Berry and Millsaps will finish off the series tomorrow at William R. Bowdoin Field on Sunday. First pitch is at 1 p.m. in the rubber game of the series.
