Staten Island, N.Y. (3/31/15) – Senior Mike Daley earned his second win of the year after tossing eight innings while striking out nine as the #5 Kean University baseball team swam past the College of Staten Island, 7-2.
Daley (2-0) allowed two unearned runs along with two hits and five walks. With the win, Kean improves to 17-4. The loss drops CSI to 5-7 in the cold, rainy affair.
The Cougars were able to take a 2-0 lead in their first at-bat as sophomore Scott Durkin led off the game with a first pitch double. He would come around to score on another double, this time off the bat of Ryan Kelley. Kelley crossed the plate on an RBI single from Sal Taormina.
Both teams' traded single runs in the second before Kean widen the gap with two more in the third off RBIs from D.J. Ross and Chris Amato to push the lead out to 5-1. Daley carried the game from there, as the offense continued to tack on single runs in the fifth and seventh to pull away with the win.
Durkin finished with three hits, two of which were doubles, while Kelly, Taormina, and Ross all recorded two apiece.
Kean returns to NJAC action on Thursday when they host William Paterson University at 3:30 p.m.
