JACKSON, Miss.—Recording a season-low two hits, the No. 4 Birmingham-Southern baseball team fell to No. 21 Millsaps, 2-0, this afternoon at Twenty Field in Jackson, Miss.

The Panthers dropped to 23-4-1 overall and 10-2-1 in the Southern Athletic Association, snapping a seven-game unbeaten streak, while the Majors moved to 21-4 and 11-2 in the SAA, vaulting to first place in the league standings and pushing BSC to third behind Millsaps and Rhodes (10-2).

Majors starter Smokey Ethridge (3-2) threw the complete-game two-hit shutout, striking out 10 Panther batters. Senior BSC starter Blake Stevens picked up his first loss of the season, falling to 6-1 while giving up 10 hits and one earned run with nine strikeouts in seven innings of work. Junior Wilson Jamison threw the final inning, allowing two hits and one more earned run.

Stevens and Ethridge battled it out for the first five-and-a-half innings, with Ethridge allowing only two Panther runners to reach base safely. Millsaps left two runners on in each of the first three innings, with the Panther defense consistently working its way out of trouble until the Majors finally scored in the bottom of the sixth. Three straight singles loaded the bases to open the inning before Logan Patterson hit into a double play to score what would turn out to be the game-winning run.

The game-tying run reached second in the top of the eighth when sophomore Jack Rhodesreached second on a Majors error, but Ethridge struck out the next three batters. Millsaps added another run in the bottom of the eighth, and retired three straight BSC batters in the top of the ninth to clinch the shutout victory.

The three-game series continues tomorrow with a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
