Husson Baseball Sweeps Double-header with Maine-Farmington

BANGOR, ME - The Husson University baseball team swept a pair of NAC games with UMF winning the first game 3-2 and the second game 4-1. The Eagles now improve to 4-7 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Beavers drop to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Game One -  Husson 3 , UMF 2

The Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third when JT Whitten (Waterville, ME) and Julien Boone (Washington, DC) hit back-to-back RBI singles driving in Ryan Rebar (Harmony, ME) and Andrew Curran (Hampstead, NH).

Husson extended their lead to 3-0 in the 5th when Kyle Bishop (Waterville, ME) connected on a RBI double to right center bringing home Curran.

The Beavers answered with two runs in the sixth when Tom Grady (Whitefield, ME) and Jimmy Neal (Farmington, ME) hit back-to-back RBI singles to pull within one run.

Dennis O'Neil (Mount Desert, ME) pitched a perfect 7th inning to shut down the Beavers and earn his first save of the season.

Robert Graff (South Portland, ME) pitched six strong innings for the Eagles giving up two runs on six hits while striking out three in the win.

Game Two -  Husson 4 , UMF 1

The Eagles again got off to a hot start, scoring in the first inning when Bishop hit a sacrifice fly that plated Curran.

Husson grew their lead to 3-0 in the third, thanks to a pair of RBI triples from Curran and Bishop. Curran finished the game with two hits, one walk, one RBI, and one stolen base.

UMaine-Farmington scored their only run of the game in the 4th on an Ethan Gouin (Sanford, ME) RBI double.

Husson added to their lead in the sixth when Christian Corneil (Bangor, ME) singled home Darik Messier (North Troy, VT) making the game 4-1. 

Corey Mongiat (Waterboro, ME) picked up the win for Husson, his first of the season. He pitched six solid innings gave up one run on seven hits while striking out three. O'Neil pitched a perfect 7th to earn the save.

"I thought our team did a good job bouncing back from spring break and picking up two conference wins," said manager Jason Harvey. "I thought we pitched the ball extremely well, picked up some timely hits, and played really solid defense."

With the two wins today, Husson improves to 109-37 all-time versus UMaine-Farmington and has now defeated the Beavers in the last 13 games dating back to the 2012 campaign.

Husson is back in action tomorrow when they host Colby-Sawyer for a North Atlantic Conference double-header starting at noon.
