Patchogue, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team dropped a pair of Skyline Conference games at St. Joseph's on Monday afternoon. The Rams fell to 6-10 overall and 2-2 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles improved to 9-8, 4-0.
In the top of the first inning, Farmingdale State took a 1-0 lead on an Anthony Alvino (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) RBI groundout which scored senior shortstop Tom Rydzewski (Franklin Square, N.Y.).
After a 3-run second inning put St. Joe's ahead 3-1, the Rams cut the deficit to 3-2 on RBI single to center by sophomore catcher Nick Osburn (East Islip, N.Y.) in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the sixth, junior third baseman Joseph Calabrese (Westbury, N.Y.) hit a 2-out solo home run to increase the Golden Eagles advantage to 4-2.
Trailing 5-2 in the ninth, Farmingdale State would score one unearned run but fell 5-3 in the first game of the Skyline doubleheader.
Senior third baseman Anthony McQuade (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 at the plate, while Alvino had one hit, an RBI and scored a run.
Calabrese finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for St. Joe's. Sophomore pitcher Ryan Aloise (West Sayville, N.Y.) earned the win after allowing one earned run on six hits in seven innings of work.
In game two, the Golden Eagles jumped out to an early 1-0 lead and used a 3-run third inning to go ahead 4-0.
Senior right fielder Michael Marino (Franklin Square, N.Y.) led off the top of the fourth with a single to third base and later stole second. A 2-out RBI double to left by junior first baseman Dalton McCarthy (Manorville, N.Y.) cut the FSC deficit to 4-1. St. Joe's responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 7-1.
With bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, a Marino RBI groundout followed by a run on a passed ball pulled the Rams within four, 7-3. The Rams were unable to score in the final two innings as the fell, 7-3.
Rydzewski was 2-for-4 with a run scored and McCarthy had two hits along with an RBI.
Junior right fielder Nick Girardi (Syosset, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a game-high 4 RBI. Sophomore Josh Outsen (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) recorded the win after allowing three runs in 6.2 innings, while senior Matt Mills (Lake Grove, N.Y.) registered the final out and earned the save.
Farmingdale State next will head to Baruch for a non-conference game on Thursday, April 9th at 3:30 p.m.
