Berry baseball defeats Centre and takes series

ROME, Ga. – The Berry College baseball team captured the season series with Centre College after defeating the Colonels, 6-2, on Saturday. Berry tallied 11 hits while not committing any errors. The Vikings move their record to 18-13-1 overall and 7-5-1 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Colonels fell to 3-21 overall and 1-14 in the SAA. Centre jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning by a sacrifice-fly and a RBI single. Berry tied the game up in the same inning after Sam Joyce knocked an RBI single and Devin Skelton scored on a passed ball. The Vikings scored 3 more times in the seventh inning. Grant Perkins had a 2-RBI single. Alex McGill tallied the third run in the inning on a sac-fly. Perkins finished the game leading the BC offense by recording 3 base hits. He finished with 2 RBIs and scored once. Skelton added a pair of hits and scored once. Joyce went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. TJ Montgomery (4-2) picked up his fourth win on the season by going seven strong innings. He allowed both runs for Centre but struck out 7 without walking a batter. Joey Bell shut the door in the ninth by striking out 2 of the 3 batters faced. For Centre, Tanner Sauley and Andrew Olson each contributed a pair of hits. Grant Herald picked up the only RBI for his team. The Vikings will travel to Emory University on April 7 at 3 p.m.
