Baruch Defeats SUNY-Maritime (16-4), Fall to Farmingdale (9-5)

The baseball team had a busy 24 hours splitting a pair of non-conference matches.

Last night, they routed the Privateers of SUNY-Maritime, 16-4, in the Bronx, but lost this afternoon to Farmingdale State, 9-5, at MCU Park on Coney Island.

The Bearcats scored a season-high 16 runs on 14 hits against SUNY-Maritime.
Matthew Ballone(3-4, 3 doubles, 3 runs, 6 RBI, 1 walk) and Angel Tejeda(3-3, 2 runs, 3 RBI) had the big game at the plate. Tejada and Eric Ulinoeach smacked a homer, while Adams Pegueropitched a gem with 10 strikeouts to go with a line of 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 6 BB.

The team scored seven total runs in the fifth inning en route to the high-scoring win.

This afternoon, the Bearcats trailed by a run heading into the ninth inning, but lost in the end to regional power Farmingdale State, 9-5.

They led early,1-0, but the visiting Rams exploded for six runs in the second inning. The team managed to get as close as 6-5 in the sixth inning, but the Bearcats could not hold back the Rams as they scored three insurance runs in the ninth to seal the eventual 9-5 win.


Jesus Ozuna Perez(2-3, 1 Run)and Ulino (2-4, 1 Run, 1 RBI) each had two hits in the tough loss.

The Bearcats will hit the road on Saturday, April 11 for a 12:00 pm CUNYAC home doubleheader against CCNY. The doubleheader will be played at the Bronx Community College baseball field.
