WENHAM, Mass. – A three-run homerun and four total RBIs from sophomore third baseman Mike Kochiss (Fairfield, Conn.) as well as sophomore lefty Luke Morse's (Westford, Mass.) second straight victory on the mound helped Endicott secure a 13-0 win over Gordon in game one of a CCCdoubleheader before the Scots responded by winning game two 4-1.
Endicott (15-8, 9-1 CCC) welcomes CCC rival Western New England to North Field on Sunday for a conference doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. The Golden Bears are currently 8-10 (5-3 CCC) and are coming off two home wins over Nichols on Saturday.
Game One: Endicott 13, Gordon 0
With a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth after junior Anthony Serina (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second and Gulls junior shortstop Cody Hall (Rutland, Mass.) hit a two-RBI single in the top of the fourth, Kochiss cleared the bases with a three-run bomb for his fourth jack of the year to put Endicott ahead 6-0.
Endicott junior catcher Josh Drew (Intervale, N.H.) would drive Serina in for his second run of the game later in the fifth to make it a 7-0 game.
One inning later, five more runs crossed the plate on a RBI hit to right center for Kochiss, a wild pitch that scored captain Harry Oringer (Dartmouth, Mass.), a fielder's choice RBI for Drew, and a two-RBI single by sophomore centerfielder Cam Farnham (Andover, Mass.) that capped off the scoring.
Morse would strand a Western New England runner at second base in the bottom of the sixth to end his game one outing with six shutout innings, four hits and three hits allowed, and one strikeout to improve to 2-2.
Morse gave way to freshman Gehrig Schilling (Medway, Mass.) who made his first appearance this spring and set down the first two batters he faced on a line out to center and a ground out to third before walking the next two. Schilling got out of the inning unscathed by forcing a fly to left to keep the shutout intact.
Kochiss, Drew, and Farnham each finished with two hits and at least two RBI while Hall added his two RBIs from the fourth inning. Endicott freshman Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) continued his torrid streak on the base paths, registering 14th and 15th stolen bases of the season while scoring twice.
Game Two: Gordon 4, Endicott 1
Four unearned runs in the bottom of the second put Endicott in an early hole from which they would not recover as Gordon issued the Gulls their first conference loss of the season. Endicott also ran into a strong outing from senior righty Wesley Arning (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) who hurled a complete-game and allowed just one unearned run on four hits and one walk with no strikeouts.
With two outs and runners on first and second thanks in part to an Endicott defensive miscue in the bottom of the second, Gordon's Dean Demers (Sandy Hook, Conn.) doubled down the right field line to bring home the Scots' first run. An infield single by Gordon left fielder Jeremy Jackson (Waco, Texas) brought home another run to make it 2-0 and two more tallies crossed home plate as Addison Tarr's (Oxnard, Calif.) RBI single scored one and allowed a fourth run to score after a rundown.
Endicott's only offensive production came in the top of the fourth as Serina singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on an error by the outfielder. A fly out to right put Serina on third and a passed ball allowed him to advanced 90 feet home.
Endicott would no closer than 4-1 as Arning recorded 10 straight outs to end the game. Arning improved to 2-2 on the season.
