Baseball Pushes Winning Streak To Six With 15-3 Win Over Elmira

Freshman pitcher Jack Hurley (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) threw five no-hit innings and seven players had at least two hits as The University of Scranton baseball team won its sixth straight, 15-3, over Elmira on Monday afternoon at Connell Park.

Freshman right fielder Chase Standen (Newtown Square, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) hit his first career home run and finished with three hits, three RBIs and a run, and senior outfielder Nick Papillo (Germantown, Md./St. John's College H.S.) singled twice, doubled and scored twice.

The Royals, who broke the game open with four runs in the third and five in the fourth, also got two hits, three RBIs and a run from freshman shortstop Michael Ratner (Langhorne, Pa./The Pennington School), two hits, two RBIs and two runs from freshman first baseman Anthony Caladie (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood), and two hits, two runs and an RBI from freshman designated hitter Seth Bower (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown).

Freshman center fielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) also had two hits and two runs, freshman third baseman Patrick Mergel (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) had two hits, an RBI and a run, and junior left fielder Brian Healy (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) had a three-run triple.

Scranton will be back in action on Thursday when they host Misericordia at 4 p.m. at PNC Field in Moosic, Pa.
