Hope Baseball Scores 10 Runs In Final At-Bat To Clinch Sweep of Albion

The Hope College baseball team made the most of final at-bat to sweep a doubleheader from visiting Albion on Saturday. The Flying Dutchmen scored 10 times during the bottom of the sixth inning to claim a 10-2 win in Game 2. Hope won the opener 12-3.

Winning three of four in the weekend series kept the Flying Dutchmen (18-12 overall) in the thick of the race for berth to the MIAA Tournament. Hope is 11-9 in league play.

Hope outscored Albion 41-7 over three games after dropping the series opener 6-3 on Friday.

In Game 2, the Flying Dutchmen were no-hit for 4 1/3 innings but scored 10 runs on nine hits during their half of the sixth.

Sixteen Hope batters came to the plate during the rally, including eight who collected at least one RBI. Senior second baseman Devin Schaefers of Lake Forest, California (El Toro HS), contributed a two-run single and a RBI hit in different plate appearances.

Freshman pinch-hitter Danny Carrasco of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian HS), snapped a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring single.

Winning pitcher Matt Glowacki of Goodrich, Michigan (Goodrich HS), tossed 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Goodrich (3-0) struck out one.

In Game 1, junior leftfielder Ryan Konkle of Marshall, Michigan (Marshall HS), closed Hope's scoring with a three-run homer. It was Konkle's third homer of the season.

Junior designated hitter Luke Brower of Holland, Michigan (Holland Christian HS), went 2-for-3 with a game-high four RBI. He contributed a sacrifice fly during the first, a two-run single in a four-run second and a RBI single during a six-run fifth.

Winning pitcher Austin Goodyke of Grandville, Michigan (Calvin Christian HS), scattered seven hits and three earned runs over six innings. Goodyke (4-2) struck out five.
