NORTHBORO, Mass. – Freshman Spencer Madden (Nashua, N.H.) went 2-for-4 with a RBI as the Nichols College baseball team fell 7-1 to WPI in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.

The Engineers (20-13) decided to go with a committee of pitchers to defeat the Bison which combined to allow just one run through nine innings on seven hits while walking one and striking out three. Sophomore Aidan Freeburg (Billerica, Mass.) earned his fourth win of the year after tossing two perfect innings.

WPI was paced by sophomore Nick Comei (Haverhill, Mass.) with three hits while three other student-athletes had two hits for the Engineers. Senior Zach Blanchard (Warwick, R.I.) had two RBI's in the game including an eventual game-winning RBI double that scored junior Alex Venditti (Newton, Mass.) in the third inning. Venditti also collected his 100th hit of his collegiate career in the game for the Engineers.

Freshman Jake Perkins (Danville, N.H.) took the loss in the first start of his collegiate career, though he didn't pitch badly. Perkins allowed three runs (one earned) through four innings of work while giving up five hits and one walk and striking out one.

The Bison travel to play a doubleheader with Western Conn. St. Wednesday with the first game beginning at 3:00 p.m. The Engineers – who clinched the NEWMAC's West Division – will host Wheaton in a best-of-three semifinal series beginning Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Assumption.
