MARIETTA, Ohio – The Thiel College baseball team suffered a 15-4 defeat to the Marietta College Pioneers in a nine-inning, non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon.

Trent Smith doubled home Brian Snyder in the top of the fifth after Snyder led off the inning with a double to get Thiel's second run of the game. Marietta then scored five runs in the sixth and three more in the bottom of the seventh.

Thiel recorded two runs in the eighth inning, one on a solo dinger to right field by Trent Mosley, and another on an RBI-single down the left field line by Brian Genco that scored Bryan Mitchell. Marietta's Ryan Hanahan added the final two runs of the game in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run home run.

Mitchell went 3-for-4 for the Tomcats with a run scored while Doody, Smith and Dan Koller each had two hits on the day. Riley Schwertz took the loss. He allowed five earned runs in four innings with one strikeout.

The Tomcats (23-9) will look to rebound Wednesday when they host the Thomas More Saints at Tomcat Park in a nine-inning conference game. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
