Rose-Hulman Earns Key 5-4 Win Over Anderson

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored once in the bottom of the 10th inning to earn a 5-4 extra inning victory over Anderson University in a battle of the two of the top teams in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball standings on Tuesday night.

Junior pinch hitter Hazen Hamather grounded into an RBI fielder's choice to plate senior Josh Hoeing with the game winning run.  Hoeing started the 10th with a double and advanced to third on an infield hit by junior Donnie Waters.  Hamather then hit a soft grounder to the shortstop that plated Hoeing.

Waters led the Rose-Hulman offense with two hits and one run scored.  Junior Zach Trusk launched his second home run of the season and had two RBIs, while Hoeing had one hit, one run and one RBI to lead the offensive attack.

Zack Hufferd led the Anderson offense with three hits and scored one run.  Jordan Ball added a pinch-hit two-run double to tie the score at 4-4 and force extra innings.

Junior Alec McNally picked up the win out of the bullpen to improve to 2-1 on the season.  McNally tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.  Junior Andrew Stull provided a strong start by pitching six innings and allowing two earned runs.  For Anderson, Mark Garrett tossed six innings and allowed just two runs to keep the Ravens within striking distance.

Rose-Hulman improved to 18-12 and moves one-half game behind first place Bluffton in the conference standings at 12-7 in league play.  Anderson stands 20-11 overall and 10-8 in conference play.  The Fightin' Engineers travel to Bluffton for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
