UMHB edged by ETBU 4-3

Marshall, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team ran out of late-inning magic in the series finale as the Cru fell 4-3 to East Texas Baptist Tuesday afternoon in Marshall. The loss drops UMHB to 17-15 overall and 14-10 in American Southwest Conference play on the season. The Tigers improve to 16-17 overall and 7-14 in ASC play with the victory.

 

The Cru jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Chase Burrow's sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning, but UMHB left the bases loaded in that inning. Tripp Reeves' RBI groundout gave the Cru a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. ETBU took its first lead of the game with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brice Winter singled home the first run of the frame and the other two runs scored on a wild pitch and an error. Dakota Parsons tied the game at 3-3 when he led off the top of the fifth inning with a home run. Jaxon Rader drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. UMHB would put the tying run on base in the top of the ninth, but could not get a run home.

 

Casey Frazier took the loss for the Cru to drop to 1-2 on the season. Matt Lefler picked up the win for ETBU and Jimmy Russo nailed down his fourth save of the year for the Tigers. Parsons, Reeves, K.J. Stark and Will Stafford all had two hits apiece to lead UMHB's 11-hit effort in the game.

 

The Cru will now return home to host defending conference champion LeTourneau University in the final home series of the season this weekend. UMHB will host the Yellow Jackets for a 7:00 PM single game on Friday before the two teams meet in a noon doubleheader on Saturday at Red Murff Field.
