CHICAGO, Ill. (Apr. 22, 2015) –-
Allowing four, first inning runs, the North Central College baseball team was unable to rebound, eventually dropping a 7-3 non-conference decision at the hands of the University of Chicago on Wednesday afternoon at J. Kyle Anderson Field.

The Maroons (11-15) strung together four hits in the bottom of the first to plate four runs off Cardinal starter Andrew Houser, as Nicholas Toomey reached on an error to lead off the inning and Ryan Krob promptly followed with a two-run homerun over the left field fence to give Chicago an early 2-0 lead.

Chicago added two more unearned runs in the inning to take a 4-0 lead as the lead off error came back to haunt the Cardinals.

Adding another run in the bottom half of the second and fourth, the Maroons took a 6-0 advantage before the Cardinals' cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth.  Jake Rone lined a one-out triple to the right center field gap and came around to score on a Chris Hill double the following batter.  Later in the inning, Carius plated Hill with a two-out single, trimming the Chicago lead 6-2.

Rallying for a run in the top of the ninth, the deficit was too much to overcome for the Cardinal offense down the stretch, eventually falling 7-3.

Houser fell to 2-1 on the season, allowing seven runs, four earned, over 4 1/3 innings pitched, striking out two and walking two.

Carius paced the Cardinals' offensively, finishing 3-for-5 from the plate with a run batted in.  Rone and Sing Fong each added a pair of hits and a run scored.

North Central plays host to North Park University on Saturday, Apr. 25 at Zimmerman Stadium.  The first game of the doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m. with Senior Day festivities prior to game one.
