Bison fall 10-3 to Western Connecticut St. in rain-shortened game

DANBURY, Conn. – Sophomore Mike Piekarczyk (Dudley, Mass.) had a two-run homerun in the top of the second inning but the Nichols College baseball team fell to Western Connecticut St. 10-3 Wednesday afternoon at Westside Field.

Junior Benjamin Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) went 2-for-3 while freshman Brendan Martin (Nashua, N.H.) had two hits and scored a run as the Bison fall to 5-15-1 on the season.

Freshman StigErik McElhinney (Dracut, Mass.) fell to 1-3 on the year after allowing eight runs (all earned) through the first three innings while giving up seven hits and walking four and striking out two.

The win went to junior Josh Zurita (New London, Conn.) who pitched the complete game and allowed three runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out a pair of Bison.

Junior Matt Greene (New London, Conn.) had a huge day for the Colonials. He went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI's including RBI-doubles in the first and second innings.

The Bison host conference foe Salve Regina on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The Colonials (13-12) host Trinity on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
