Keystone Overpowers #13 Misericordia in Military Appreciation Game, 15-6

La Plume, PA – Keystone College remained hot on Monday afternoon with a 15-6 victory over Misericordia University, currently ranked 13th in the nation, in a non-conference, Military Appreciation Game on Monday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field.  The Giants, who have scored 36 runs in their last two games, improve to 26-11 on the spring with their eighth-straight victory and 10th win in their last 11 games.       
 
Prior to Monday's contest, the two teams honored area military veterans who were on hand for the pre-game ceremonies.
 
Keystone took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of Monday's contest as Louis Reyes (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) scored on an RBI groundout by Joe Angelucci (Commack, NY/Commack) before Nate Ross (Albuquerque, NM/La Cueva) came home on a passed ball.  The Giants added an unearned run in the home third as Julian Lanfranco (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) came home on an RBI groundout by Kevin Luciano (Everett, MA/Cambridge Rindge and Latin School) to make it a three-run game.
 
Misericordia (24-9) used four unearned runs in the top of the fourth inning to take their first lead of the game.  Steve Cuccio was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before Nick Hair hit a sacrifice fly to right field.  The Cougars then tied the game on a two-out RBI base hit to right field off the bat of Al Reda plated Alec Iurato with the tying run before Cuccio gave the visitor's a 4-3 by scoring on an error by the Giants.
 
Keystone answered back with four runs in the bottom half of the frame to claim a 7-4 edge. Reyes scored from first on a Ross double to the gap in left-center before Lanfranco beat out an infield single to score Ross with the go-ahead run.  Gaston Rojas (Carmel, NY/Carmel) then ripped a triple to the wall in right field that brought home Lanfranco before Alex Herceg (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) singled up the middle to plate Rojas. 
 
D.J. Navocynski hit a solo home run in the visitor's fifth to cut Misericordia's deficit to 7-5, but Anthony Muccio (Tarrytown, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) lined a leadoff home run over the left-centerfield fence in the bottom half of the frame to restore the Giants' three-run advantage.  Lanfranco then followed with a two-run single up the middle before Rojas doubled to deep center to bring home Lanfranco as the hosts opened up an 11-5 advantage. 
 
In the home sixth, Reyes hit an RBI double down the left field line before Ross, Dylan Corl (Morrisdale, PA/West Branch ), and Lanfranco followed with RBI base hits to push Keystone's lead to ten runs. 
 
Cuccio doubled home Misericordia's sixth run of the game in the top of the seventh inning, but that would prove to be the final run for either team on the afternoon.
                                                                                                                    
Keystone starting pitcher Jesse Arnold (Port St. Lucie, FL/Treasure Coast) improved to 5-1 on the season after allowing five runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits while striking out five batters in six innings of work.  Jake Granteed (West Pittston, PA/Wyoming Area) surrendered one runs on a pair of hits in two innings on the hill to go along with four Ks while Hector Vargas (Queens, NY/Forest Hills) tossed a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts to close out the victory.
 
Lanfranco, who was named the CSAC Hitter of the Week earlier in the day, continued his hot streak by with three hits, four RBIs, and three runs scored.  Ross went 4-5 with two RBIs and four runs scored while Rojas added three extra-base hits while driving in a pair of runs for the Giants, who pounded out 21 hits in the contest.
 
Misericordia starter Jake Kurtz (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out three batters over 3.2 innings.  The Cougars would go on to use a total of five pitchers on the day.
 
Navoczynski went 3-4 with three runs scored while Cuccio finished with a pair of RBIs to pace Misericordia offensively in the loss. 
 
Keystone will return to action on Friday as they open up their final Colonial States Athletic Conference series of the season as they host Gwynedd Mercy University.  Opening pitch between the Giants and Griffins is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field.
