BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Berry College lost a chance to advance to next weekend's Southern Athletic Association Championship series on Sunday. The Vikings lost by scores of 10-9 in 10 innings and 13-8 to host Birmingham-Southern.

Having not lost in the bracket, BC just sought one victory to move on, while the hosts needed to win twice to reach the championship series.

Things looked good for the Vikes as they held leads of 3-0 and later 5-3. BSC, however, rallied and led 8-5 after 6 innings. The Vikings battled back with 4 runs in the 7th inning to tie the game.

BSC got a single from Matt Brown, which scored David Scott, in the bottom of the 10th for the win.

Grant Perkins went 3-of-4 with 2 doubles, and Ryan Smith was 3-for-6 with a triple and double to lead BC batters. BSC collected 16 hits to Berry's 14.

In the winner-take-all second game, the Panthers prevailed, 13-8.

The Vikings plated one run in the first inning, but BSC battled back and held a 13-3 edge going to the ninth inning. Berry tacked on 5 runs for the final margin.

Alex McGill had an outstanding game at plate in his final game in a Berry jersey. He was 5-for-5 with a run and 3 RBI. He upped his Berry all-time hit total to 166.

Starter Will Estes (3-2) pitched 3 2/3 innings and took the loss.

The Vikings end its year with a record of 23-18-1. BSC (34-8-1) will host Rhodes in a 3-game championship series this weekend.
