More news about: Frostburg State

WASHINGTON, Pa. – For the 14th time this season, the Frostburg State baseball team hit multiple home runs in a game and today's pair of long balls led the Bobcats to a 5-0 win over Washington & Jefferson.

With the win, the Bobcats move to 33-3 on the season, surpassing the second-most wins in a season by FSU and need just two more to tie the all-time record. The Presidents fall to 22-13 on the year.

Prior to today's contest, both national polls (d3baseball.com/NCBWA and ABCA) have Frostburg State holding steady at #2 in the country while the Bobcats are receiving three first place votes in the d3baseball.com poll and two in the ABCA rankings.

Frostburg State got out to an early lead on senior Nick Walker's sixth home run of the season to give FSU a 2-0 advantage in the first. With two outs in the inning, senior Zach Weiss worked a 3-2 walk to extend the inning. Walker connected on a 1-1 pitch and sent it down the left field line over the fence for the early Bobcat lead.

Freshman starter Greg Schneider was once again dominant on the mound for FSU as he allowed just two baserunners through the first four innings. The first President reached second base against Schneider in the fifth but was left stranded as the righthander set the final batter down on strikes to end the inning,

Frostburg added a pair of runs in the fourth to take a comfortable 4-0 lead over W&J. After senior Ricky Brady walked with one out in the fourth, junior Zach Keeler hit his second home run of the year to score Brady and give the visiting Bobcats their 4-0 lead.

Schneider allowed two hits in the sixth but no President made it past second against the righty.

The Bobcats added their final run of the game in the top of the ninth for the 5-0 victory. Senior Lane Farmer doubled down the right field line before junior Jeremy Remalia moved him to third on a sacrifice bunt. Junior pinch hitter Pat Sines singled through the left side to score Farmer for the Bobcats' final run of the game.

Freshman Tyler Hoffman came out in relief of Schneider in the ninth and after giving up a one-out walk, got a pair of fielder's choices to end the game with the shutout in tact.

Schneider improved to 6-1 on the year for FSU after allowing just five hits and one walk. The righthander came up just two short of his career strike out number with 10 over his 8.0 innings. Hoffman pitched a scoreless ninth with one strikeout and one walk. Nick Kolat took the loss for W&J after allowing four runs over 6.0 innings and giving up seven of the Bobcats' 10 hits and two walks. Kolat struck out just one Bobcat.

Frostburg returns to action tomorrow as the Bobcats host Mount Aloysius at Bob Wells Field for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm.
