BROCKTON, Mass. – The Newbury College baseball team fell to non-conference UMass-Dartmouth, 6-5, Saturday afternoon. Senior first baseman Alex Newton (Saco, Maine) went two-for-four with a double and four RBIs en route to the Corsairs' 23rd victory of the season.

Newbury jumped on the scoreboard first pushing across a run in the home half of the first. Senior first baseman Cameron D'Agostino (Salisbury, Mass.) led off with a base-hit back up the middle. Three batters later after advancing on a sacrifice and a ground-out to the left-side, D'Agostino score when Broy reached on an error.

However, the Corsairs were able to get to Newbury starter Danny Lumb (Stoneham, Mass.) in the top of the second scoring three runs to take the 3-1 lead. UMass-Dartmouth grabbed another run in the top of the third to extend their lead to three runs.

But the Nighthawks were not going to be denied and battled their way back. After scrapping a run in the home half of the third, Newbury pushed across three runs in the bottom of the fourth to re-gain the lead. Against first year reliever Josh Fickert (Lakeville, Mass.), D'Agostino reached on a two-out error by the third baseman. Sophomore second baseman C.J. Ingraham(Georgetown, Mass.) blooped a singled just over the first baseman's head down the right-field line to give the Nighthawks runners at the corners.

Junior third baseman Ryan Zahornasky (Shelton, Conn.) roped a double just under the centerfielder's glove to bring home both D'Agostino and Ingraham to tie up the ball-game at four. After advancing to third on wild pitch, Zahornasky scampered home on a passed ball to give the Nighthawks the 5-4 advantage.

Lumb held the Corsairs scoreless in the fifth inning but ran into trouble in the top of the sixth. UMass-Dartmouth pushed across two runs to re-gain the lead and knock the Stoneham native out of the ballgame after 6.1 innings of work. Senior right-hander Ryan Sinclair (Portsmouth, R.I.) came on and pitched 1.2 innings of solid relief allowing just two hits while fellow seniorLyndon Brundige (Rockland, Mass.) pitched a perfect eighth inning. But it was not enough as the Corsairs hung-on for the victory.
