ALMA, Mich. – Michael Fischbach completed one of the finest seasons by an Albion College baseball player Sunday as the Britons split a doubleheader with Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Alma College. Albion lost game one, 12-3, but rallied for a 14-6 victory in game two.
Fischbach, the junior center fielder from Valencia, Calif., went 6-for-8 with three doubles, a triple and four runs batted in Sunday. He finished with Albion single-season records for doubles (20), triples (6) and runs batted in (44).
Albion finished the season 19-21 overall and 12-16 against MIAA rivals.
Game One
Fischbach and Shane Lindemann hit RBI singles as Albion jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. Alma seized control, scoring five times in the second. Fischbach added a RBI single in the seventh, scoring Kyle Kowal who hit a leadoff double.
Game Two
Fischbach led Albion's 18-hit attack, slugging three doubles and a triple. He also drove in two runs and scored four runs.
Jack Wyman collected three singles, including RBI hits in the first and sixth. Lindemann, Kowal, Mitch Lasceski, Ronnie Williams III and Justin Dennis all produced two hits. Lasceski and Steve Marowski drove in three runs each and Dennis had two RBI.
Starting pitcher Nate Brubaker (2-5) allowed three runs on four hits and three walks over 5.1 innings to gain the win. Bob Green, one of the Albion's seniors, finished the game.
