Earlham Opens HCAC Tournament

ANDERSON, Ind. — The Earlham College baseball team opened play in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at Anderson University on Thursday.

The host Ravens defeated the Quakers 10-0 in the second contest of the day. In the first game, the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology outlasted Manchester University 16-15.

Earlham (26-13) meets Manchester (24-14) on Friday at 12:30 p.m. Rose-Hulman (26-14) faces Anderson (29-11) at 9:30 a.m.

In Friday's last contest at 4 p.m., the loser of the Rose-Hulman and Anderson game squares off against the winner of the Earlham-Manchester affair. The championship game is scheduled for Saturday at noon.

The Quakers had four hits on the day with Thomas Rea, Ethan Bailey, Brandon Smalling and Devin Spurgon collecting one each.

Matt Brankle (5-6) was the starter for the Quakers and worked three innings as he got the loss.
