Ripon's Michael Polcyn and Marshall Zahn Named MWC North Player, Pitcher of the Year -- Again

GRINNELL, Iowa - For the second consecutive season, Michael Polcyn and Marshall Zahn have been named Midwest Conference North Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. That marks the eighth time in conference history that Ripon has won both awards in the same season.

A senior Exercise Science major from Ripon, Polcyn ranks 10th in the MWC this season with a .373 batting average, while also ranking in a fourth-place tie with six home runs. The shortstop leads the team in total bases (73), while ranking second in RBI (29), hits (44) and runs scored (31), and ranking third in doubles (9). This year's Player of the Year award marks the fourth time a Ripon player has received the honor in the last five seasons. It is also just the third time in conference history a player has won the award in two consecutive years, and first time since 2007-08.

Zahn is a senior Business Management major from Oneida, He has gone 4-2 this season with a 3.23 ERA, which ranks seventh in the MWC. His 49 strikeouts are tied for third in the conference, while his eight walks are tied for the fewest. He has pitched 47.1 innings this season, which is the most on the team, and has held opponents to a batting average of .259, which is tied for sixth in the MWC. Zahn is the first player in the 16-year history of the MWC North Pitcher of the Year award to win it in consecutive years. The Red Hawks have had a player receive the award in 10 of those years.
