ANDERSON, Ind. — The most successful Earlham College baseball season in the NCAA era came to a close on Friday.

The Quakers fell 14-6 to Manchester University on the second day of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at Anderson University.

Earlham finished 26-14, which tied the 1970 team for the most victories in a season. It is the most wins since the Quakers became a NCAA school in the mid-1980s.

It was also the final contest in the careers of Matt Brankle, Nate Hube, Josh Parr and Garrett York.

Manchester (25-14) built a 7-0 advantage after two innings against Earlham starter Bryce Rainey (6-1).

In the third, Brennan Laird had a RBI single to get the Quakers on the scoreboard. Cody Krumlauf made it 7-2 in the fourth with a run-scoring single. Ethan Bailey added another run in the fifth on a RBI single.

The Spartans picked up a run in the bottom of the fifth and then two more in the seventh.

The Quakers rallied in the eighth to close the gap to 10-6. Krumlauf brought in the first run with a single. A sacrifice fly by Devin Spurgon produced the second run. Thomas Rea had a double that scored Krumlauf.

Manchester had four runs in the bottom of the eighth.
