After 2.5 scoreless innings, Rensselaer put five runs on the board in the third inning, highlighted by a double down the leftfield line by senior shortstop Nick Palmiero (Patterson, NY / Carmel). Eleven batters came to the plate in the frame for the Engineers. The Yellowjackets came right back with an unearned run in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Brendan Garry (Ronkonkoma, NY / Sachem North), but RPI plated three runs with two outs in the fifth when junior catcher Chris Holomakoff (Norwalk, CT / Brien McMahon) hit his first career home run, clearing the left field wall. LeSuer added his home run on a 1-2 pitch an inning later.

Rochester scored four runs on five hits in the eighth inning, including Slutsky's double, and added two runs on three hits in the ninth for the final margin.
