Baruch Finishes Second at 2015 CUNYAC Baseball Championship at MCU Park

More news about: Baruch

The baseball team finished in second place in the final day of 2015 CUNYAC Baseball Championship that took place on a foggy Saturday evening at MCU Park on Coney Island.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the sixth game of the tournament played at 4pm.

Matthew Ballone smacked a two-run homer and Eric Ulino walked home a run with the bases loaded for the 3-0 lead in the second inning. Ballone later had an RBI double in the seventh and things appeared to be going the right way, but the Dolphins, who have won the tournament 16 times, stormed back in dramatic fashion with five runs in the eighth inning to stun the Bearcats, 7-4, and force a seventh game at 7pm.

As was the case in the first game of the day, the Bearcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind a bases-clearing triple by
Angel Tejedain the first inning. The team scored three more runs in the third inning to lead 6-0.

Unfortunately, the Dolphins rallied again and hit a grand slam homer in their final at-bat to force extra innings with the score tied at six. The Bearcats went ahead again 9-6 in the top half of the 12th inning with three runs via a pair of RBI doubles by Ulino and
Jesus Ozuna Perez, along with an RBI single by Zachary T. Uher.

Despite the three-run advantage, the Dolphins rallied again with four runs in their bottom half of the 12th inning to walk off with the championship at MCU Park.

The Bearcats finish the season with a 14-23 overall record.
