AUBURN, N.Y. – Cortland rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth and the nationally top-ranked Red Dragons defeated Oberlin College, 6-4, during the opening day of the NCAA Division III Baseball New York Regional at Falcon Park.

Cortland (37-4) will face Amherst College in a winner's bracket game Thursday at 4:30 p.m., while Oberlin (18-27) will play Oswego in an elimination game at 10 a.m. The eight-team regional continues through Saturday, with a final game Sunday if needed.

Trailing 4-3, the Red Dragons started their winning rally with a Mark DeMilio (Valhalla) one-out walk and a Conrad Ziemendorf (Penfield/Webster Schroeder) hit-by-pitch. Vinny Bomasuto (Dunkirk) singled up the middle to drive in the tying run and Anthony Simon's (Suffern/Don Bosco Prep (NJ)) single to left plated the go-ahead run. Bomasuto eventually scored on an error on a ball hit by Adam Smith (Vestal).

Adam Brant (Staatsburg/Our Lady of Lourdes) earned the win in relief of Brandon Serio (Bedford Hills/Fox Lane). Brant entered in the top of the eighth and recorded one and two thirds innings of hitless relief. Serio gave up 10 hits, two walks and four runs and struck out eight in seven and a third innings.

Kyle Dominy threw the first seven innings for the Yeomen and allowed three runs. He gave up five hits and six walks and fanned three. Milo Sklar took the loss after being charged with three runs, two earned, in the eighth.

Cortland led 3-0 after two innings. Austin Clock (Niskayuna) drove in a run with a sac fly in the first, and Ziemendorf hit a two-run single in the second. Ziemendorf finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and Bomasuto was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Oberlin tallied a run on a Andrew Hutson grounder in the third, and the Yeomen tied the game in the fifth on Benjamin Whitener's two-run double. They grabbed the lead in the sixth when Ryan Bliss led off with a double and scored on Blaise Dolcemaschio's one-out double.

Oberlin out-hit Cortland, 10-7, led by Kyle Decker's 3-for-5 performance. Whitener was 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBI and Justin Cruz finished 2-for-4.
